Very well, I’ll say it….I was born in Derbyshire, and I am very proud of that fact. There is Scots blood in me, too, and I do enjoy the wilder parts of the British Isles. The Peak District National Park (which is predominantly in Derbyshire) is always a joy to visit, and I lived close to it for about 30 years, in total. Derbyshire folk are warm and have a dry wit all their own; the Derbyshire dialect (which I still use, when the chance arises) is rich in words with Old Norse roots, reflecting the area’s historical role as part of the Danelaw.
